The desk-based risk assessment tool asks yes or no questions to calculate a preliminary overall risk on a particular site.
Welcome to Earthscape's online risk assessment tool!
This tool has been developed in collaboration with some of our most senior Earthscape team members to help you evaluate and monitor the risks associated with your projects. The tool is appropriate for all parts of the project development from conceptual design right to delivery, and all stages in between.
Our goal in sharing this online tool is to make the wisdom and lessons-learned from some of the most experienced people within our business more widely accessible to the rest of the organization. The American inventor and businessman Thomas Edison once said "Every failure is a lesson learned about your strategy".
This quote embodies the intention of our risk assessment tool because it speaks to the opportunities which come from our experiences (both positive and negative): the key thing is to learn from them and adjust our strategies accordingly.
Objectives
- Improve our project performance (i.e., project profitability, client satisfaction, playground durability and longevity, and etc.) through effective risk management.
- Provide Earthscape staff involved in front-end processes (Sales > Design > Project Management) with a new tool for evaluating risks, and more importantly, help them understand what conditions they can change in order to mitigate those risks.
- Identify which type of project is being considered and where it sits in the Stretch Pyramid at any time.

This tool distinguishes between different types of projects and different types of risks. It is important to understand that most project risks are driven by the choices we make, the actions we take, not by the nature of the structures we design and build.
To say this differently, it is equally possible for a Collections project to be high-risk, as it is for a Custom project to be low-risk. What distinguishes one from the other, are the decisions we make along the way.
